Khmer
Khmer is the national language of Cambodia and is also used by communities in Thailand and in the south of Vietnam.
The Khmer language is the language of an ancient civilisation, which has contributed much to the culture of South-East Asia, in particular to the development of art and architecture, music, dance and religious thought.
There is a growing community of Cambodians in Australia, and as Australia’s links with South-East Asia are strengthened, the importance of learning Khmer increases.
Being able to communicate in Khmer enhances travel and promotes understanding, harmony and cooperation with Khmer speaking communities in Australia.
