Vietnamese
The study of Vietnamese contributes to the overall education of students, particularly in the areas of communication, cross-cultural understanding, literacy and general knowledge. It provides access to the culture of Vietnam and Vietnamese-speaking communities around the world, and promotes understanding of different attitudes and values within the wider Australian community and beyond.
Vietnamese is spoken by some ninety million people living in Vietnam. It is also the home language of about two million people living in countries such as France, the United States of America, Canada and Australia.
Vietnamese has a culture rich in history, literature and the arts. The ability to communicate in Vietnamese may, in conjunction with other skills, increase students’ vocational opportunities in areas such as trade, the arts, education, social welfare, interpreting and translating.
